what is a guardian home?

We believe that every dog deserves to live their entire lives as a much-loved family member. While we’d love to keep all of our breeding dogs with us, it wouldn’t be ethical — we could never provide the individual love, attention, and daily companionship that each one needs if we housed them all ourselves.

This is why we have guardian homes. By placing some of our dogs with carefully chosen families, they get the best of both worlds: a forever home filled with love and attention, while still contributing to our breeding program in a healthy, balanced way.

So, what is a Guardian Home? It is a special partnership between us here at Posy Park and a loving family / household member who provides a forever home for one of our breeding dogs.

Instead of living in kennels, our dogs grow up as cherished family pets — enjoying all the love, care, and attention of a normal household.

what are the requirements to become a guardian?

To ensure the very best life for our dogs, we ask that our Guardian Homes meet the following requirements:

  • Safe, Secure Home: You must provide a loving, stable household with secure fencing and a safe environment for the dog to live as part of your family.

  • Family Lifestyle: Your dog should live indoors with you and be included in daily family life. They should not be left alone for long periods or kept outside.

  • Location: Live within 2 hours of the central coast, NSW so we can easily arrange health testing, breeding, and ongoing support.

  • Care & Maintenance: Commit to regular grooming (every 8-10 weeks), feeding high-quality food (we provide guidance), keeping vaccinations and parasite prevention up to date.

  • Vet Care: Cover general veterinary care (we cover all breeding-related costs).

  • Training & Socialisation: Provide basic training, manners, and socialisation to ensure the dog develops into a confident, well-adjusted companion.

  • Availability for Breeding: Be available to bring the dog to us, or at a agreed on location when needed for health testing, breeding, or whelping (we’ll always give plenty of notice).

  • Commitment: Work in partnership with us, keeping open communication and updating us regularly about the dog’s wellbeing.

In return, you’ll enjoy the companionship of one of our beautiful dogs at little to no upfront cost, with lifetime support from us — and when their breeding career is complete, we will cover their spay/neuter and they remain with you forever as your family pet.

what are the steps involved with becoming a guardian?

  • Application & Expression of Interest

    • Submit an application form or contact us to express your interest.

    • Share details about your household, lifestyle, and experience with dogs.

  • Initial Screening

    • We review your application to ensure your home and lifestyle are a good fit for one of our dogs.

    • This may include questions about your home environment, yard space, fencing, family dynamics, and daily routines.

  • Meet & Greet

    • You’ll be invited to meet with us (and often the puppy or dog) to ensure everyone is comfortable.

    • This is a chance for you to ask questions and understand the program fully.

  • Home Visit

    • We’ll visit your home to confirm it’s safe, secure, and suitable for raising one of our breeding dogs.

    • This includes checking fencing, indoor space, and overall living conditions.

  • Guardian Agreement/Contract

    • A formal guardian contract is discussed and signed, outlining responsibilities, expectations, and care requirements.

    • You’ll be provided with full details on what we cover (vet care, breeding expenses, etc.) and what you’re responsible for (general care, food, training, etc.).

  • Placement of Puppy/Dog

    • Once approved, your guardian puppy or dog will join your family.

    • We’ll provide guidance on settling them in, training, and care.

  • Ongoing Support & Communication

    • We stay in regular contact to support you and check in on the dog’s progress.

    • Guardians are expected to maintain open communication with us regarding health, training, or breeding-related needs.

  • Breeding Commitments (when applicable)

    • For females, dogs will return to us for breeding and whelping.

    • For males, they may be required for stud duties periodically over the agreed time they have been contracted for.

    • We’ll always provide plenty of notice and flexibility around these arrangements.

  • Transition to Full Ownership

    • Once the dog has completed their breeding career, they are de-sexed (at our expense) and full ownership is transferred permanently to you.
